You don’t get everything you want in life. That’s all there is to say about that.
Get off your butt and lend a hand. Providing active service helps others and makes your life richer. Clear the table, water the plants, cook dinner, babysit: I can’t explain exactly why, but I promise that you will feel incrementally better about yourself and your life every single time you get up and do something for someone else.
When there are facts that you don’t want to face, it’s tempting to rationalize them away and avoid the truth. This type of self-deception only mires you deeper in the muck. Trust your instincts: Things are usually exactly what they seem to be.
The unfortunate reality is that people will fail you, and you will experience what broken trust does to relationships. I hope that as a consequence, you learn the true value of the faith people place in you. Be worthy of it.
Hypocrisy is not the blanket failure it’s made out to be; we all act in ways that conflict with the image we want to reflect or the values we want to embody. Try not to pigeonhole people with expectations; be forgiving of this inconsistency, both in yourself and in others.
It never works anyway.
